What is a PTA?
A PTA is a Parent Teacher Association, an organisation with a mission to make school a better place for children to learn. The PTA brings parents and teachers together to raise funds and strengthen the school community. One of the main jobs of the PTA is raising funds for things that the school budget does not cover. This can range from computer tablets for interactive learning, to special outings and trips for the children.
It can be hugely rewarding to join the PTA, with many benefits for you and your child. Joining can help you gain confidence and make new friends with other like-minded parents at the school, and feel a great sense of satisfaction when you see the smiling faces of the children. You will get a chance to grow your relationships with the teachers and other members of staff. However, the main reward is knowing you played a part in making your child’s time at school the best it could possibly be.
Why your PTA needs you
All four of the Oak-Tree schools are always looking for new members to join their PTA. Our current members already do a fantastic job, but new ideas and helping hands are always welcome. Whether it is sparing a few hours to talk to prospective parents, serving refreshments at open events or brainstorming ideas for the next big event, there is a place for everyone and all help is appreciated.
The importance of parent involvement in school
- Research has shown that parental involvement has a very significant impact on a child’s achievement and attainment at school.
- Parents have knowledge of what the pupils want and need at school.
- It is a great way of showing your children how important their education is to you.
- Parents that are involved in the PTA are the voice of other parents and people in the community. They help to shape the school to what’s best for the students in it and their families.
